Introduction to Lip Lift

We’re often unaware of the daily strain on our mouths. Whether it’s a casual smile, a general smirk, or even environmental exposure, the skin around your mouth and lips is under continuous stress. The good news is that there is a solution to sagging and lifeless lips – a lip lift. Founded by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Christian Subbio, Subbio Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa has become the one-stop shop for cosmetic and aesthetic procedures, including a lip lift performed by our in-house surgeon, Dr. Lana Feldman.

What is a Lip Lift?

A lip lift is a plastic surgery that reduces the distance between the nose and the upper lip. It is a highly sought-after procedure for patients looking for long-lasting solutions to drooping lips and mouth. During a lip lift, the mouth is lifted higher, and any excess skin is removed. This leads to a tighter, well-defined contour. Dr. Feldman at Subbio Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa is a skilled and artful surgeon who prioritizes her patients’ aesthetic goals, ensuring that they are satisfied with a new, youthful smile.

Lip Lift First Step

What’s the First Step?

The first step in getting a lip lift in Philadelphia is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Feldman at Subbio Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa. You will meet with Dr. Feldmant to discuss your medical history, aesthetic goals, concerns, and expectations. This is a great time to be honest about any chronic conditions and ask questions so that you can decide if a lip lift is the best way to achieve your aesthetic goals.

Dr. Feldman will also evaluate the shape, size, and proportions of your lips to determine if a lip lift is indeed the best technique for your case. To manage your expectations, she will explain the procedure in detail, including the associated risks and benefits.

If you decide to proceed with a lip lift, Dr. Feldman will create your customized surgical plan. Then our Patient Coordinator will help you schedule the day and time of your lip lift procedure, guide you on billing and payment options, and provide you with pre-operative instructions.

What to Expect on the Day of Lip Lift Surgery

On the day of your lip lift, you will arrive at our surgical center in Philadelphia and meet with Dr. Feldman. If you have any questions, you may ask while Dr. Feldman shares your surgical plan with you. We want to make sure that you are fully comfortable and in agreement with the plan before we take you into surgery. At this time, Dr. Feldman may also make some temporary marks on your lips for targeted positions of the incisions. Finally, a board-certified anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia.

Once sedated, Dr. Feldman will carefully place incisions along the natural lip line or beneath the base of the nose to hide any potential scarring. Once she has access to the underlying tissue, she will remove any excess skin or tissue, elevate the upper lip, and secure the final position and shape of the mouth, as discussed. Once she is done, she will seal the incisions with sutures and dress the area.

On average, a lip lift takes about one to two hours without any complications.

Lip Lift Recovery

After your lip lift surgery, the medical staff will monitor you in the recovery room until the sedation wears off. We recommend that patients have a friend or family member drive them home in case of any lingering effects of sedation.

Be aware that there will be some swelling and bruising around your lips, but that should subside over the next few days. Patients are encouraged to avoid strenuous activities for the first few weeks and follow the specific guidelines for eating, drinking, talking, and using their lips and mouth.
