Post Weight Loss Plastic Surgery FAQs
If you have had bariatric surgery and have lax skin remaining on your body, Post Weight Loss Plastic Surgery might be a good choice for you.
Absolutely! During your consultation, Dr. Subbio will examine you and let you know which surgeries will help you get rid of loose skin and residual deposits of fat that remain after your bariatric surgery.
If you still expect to lose a significant amount of weight, however, it’s best to postpone your surgeries, as additional substantial weight loss could cause more lax skin.
It depends on the procedures you will have done. Some surgeries require general anesthesia, while others can be performed using a local anesthetic and light sedation. After nearly all procedures, however, you will be able to go home the same day, provided someone is available to drive you home. In the case of a Body Lift, you may need to be hospitalized briefly.
For a full Tummy Tuck, the incision is usually placed just above the pubic area where the scar can be hidden under clothes. This incision may have to extend from one hip to the other, however, if you have a significant amount of loose skin that needs to be removed and tightened. Dr. Subbio will also make the incision as short as possible, while also giving you the tightening and slimming results you want.
Another incision is usually made around the belly button. Dr. Subbio then uses Liposuction to remove excess fat. This is done by inserting a tube called a cannula, which is attached to a suction device. The stomach muscles are tightened, if necessary, by suturing the fascia, and excess skin is trimmed. The incisions are then sutured and dressed.
A Body Lift, sometimes called a belt lipectomy, removes excess skin and fat from the entire lower torso and upper legs. It reshapes the thighs, abdomen, buttocks, hips, and lower back.
Dr. Subbio makes incisions where necessary to excise the lax skin, and he uses Liposuction to remove any fat deposits that remain after bariatric surgery. Since this surgery is extensive, an overnight stay in the hospital is often necessary.
It is common for loose skin to remain on the thighs after bariatric surgery. A Thigh Lift is a way to remove that lax skin, as well as any residual fat deposits, so that the thighs are tight and smooth.
Dr. Subbio makes incisions where needed, although he tries to keep them on the inner thigh, where the scars will be less noticeable.
This surgery reduces the size of uncomfortably heavy breasts. While incisions vary, an anchor pattern is used most of the time. This includes an incision around the darker skin of the areolas, vertically from the bottom of the areolas to the bottom of the breasts, and horizontally along the breast crease. For some patients, it is possible to eliminate the horizontal incision. This is called a “lollipop” pattern.
Dr. Subbio then removes excess skin, fat, and glandular tissue to reduce the breasts and lift them. If necessary, the areolas are made smaller in order to match the new breast size. The nipples and areolas are also repositioned.
You’ll be anesthetized during your surgeries, so you’ll feel no pain. All surgeries involve some discomfort after the anesthesia wears off, though. Most people find that the discomfort is less than they expected, and we’ll give you pain medication to help you get through your recovery as easily as possible. Plus, you can text or call Dr. Subbio at any time with your questions!
Yes, but it’s better to sleep in a position that does not put pressure on the area that was operated on. For example, if you have a Tummy Tuck, please do not sleep on your stomach. If you have a breast procedure, you will need to sleep on your back for about a month. We will give you full instructions to help you heal quickly and comfortably after your chosen procedures.
- He gives all his patients his cell phone number. He’ll call you the night after your surgery to check on you, as well as the next morning. And he’ll make sure your recovery is as comfortable as possible.
- He’s a trained artist, and you’re his canvas. It’s the perfect marriage of science and artistry. In fact, he’ll hand-draw his projected results right in front of you during your consultation.
- He’s fun! He likes to joke with his patients and put them at ease. Plus, we maintain a small office where we treat our patients like a part of the family.
- He won’t try to convince you to have a procedure that isn’t best for you. He’d rather lose your business than sign you up for a procedure he isn’t 100% behind. And if he thinks you need a procedure he doesn’t offer, he’ll recommend a different surgeon for you.
Probably not, but some may be combined. Most people require more than one surgery performed separately, with recovery time in between.
Most procedures do not require a hospital stay. However, a Body Lift may necessitate a night in the hospital.
This procedure is done to remove localized pockets of fat. Small incisions of about 1/4-inch each are made in the areas to be treated. Dr. Subbio will make every effort to place the incisions in discreet locations where the scars can be easily covered with clothing. These might include natural body creases, low on the abdomen above the groin, the belly button, or under the chin, for example.
A tube called a cannula is inserted into the incisions and attached to a suction device that removes the fat. Dr. Subbio uses the tumescent technique, which is the preferred Liposuction method in which tumescent fluid is used to numb the area, reduce bleeding, and loosen the fatty tissue. He then moves the cannula in and out of the incision to break down the excess fat as it is suctioned out.

After bariatric surgery, the upper arms may be left with loose skin. This surgery excises that skin and tightens the upper arms. Dr. Subbio makes the incisions on the underside of the arms, although they must be as long as the amount of skin to be removed.
This surgery lifts sagging breasts to a more attractive position. After the incisions are made, Dr. Subbio removes any excess, stretched skin. Then, he raises the breast tissue, including the nipples and areolas, to a higher position and reshapes the breasts as necessary. He then closes the incisions with sutures.
For men who have Gynecomastia, a condition that causes the development of male breasts, this surgery removes excess skin, fat, and glandular tissue to create a flattened, masculine-looking chest.
The incisions vary, although the most common one is around the dark skin of the areola so that the scars will be less visible. If you have significant excess skin, however, other incisions may be necessary for an optimal result.
Yes, there are scars that are equal to the length and width of the skin that must be removed, but Dr. Subbio will make the incisions in discreet areas whenever possible and do his best to minimize scarring. Over time, whatever scars are present will flatten, fade, and become less noticeable.
For the most part, yes, but post-surgical swelling can prevent you from seeing the final results of your procedures for a few months.
