Mommy Makeover FAQs
If you have any of the following conditions following pregnancy and breastfeeding, a Mommy Makeover might be a good choice for you:
- Love handles
- A round stomach that does not respond to diet or exercise efforts
- Persistent pockets of fat on the body
- A flattened or sagging bottom
- Sagging or deflated breasts
- Heavy breasts that cause discomfort or pain
Only if you choose a procedure that contours the body, such as a Tummy Tuck or Liposuction.
Absolutely! During your consultation, Dr. Subbio will ask you what bothers you about the way you look. Then, he’ll tell you exactly which procedures will give you the results you’re after, and he’ll explain what you can expect. He’ll even hand-draw you a projected result right in the office!
If you wish to have a Tummy Tuck, you should be near your ideal weight, however. If you plan to lose more than 15 pounds, you should wait to have your Tummy Tuck, as the weight loss could cause additional loose skin to develop.
You should also postpone your Mommy Makeover until you no longer intend to get pregnant. Subsequent pregnancies can affect your results, causing you to need revision procedures.
Definitely! Dr. Subbio is dedicated to making sure you recover as easily as possible with excellent results at his Philadelphia practice.
No. None of the procedures require a hospital stay.
Small incisions of about 1/4-inch each are made in the areas to be treated. Dr. Subbio will make every effort to place the incisions in discreet locations where the scars can be easily covered with clothing. These might include natural body creases, the area low on the abdomen above the groin, the belly button, or under the chin, for example.
A tube called a cannula is inserted into the incisions and attached to a suction device that removes the fat. He then moves the cannula in and out of the incision to break down the excess fat as it is suctioned out.
The incisions are either closed with sutures or bandaged for natural healing.

After the incisions are made, Dr. Subbio removes any excess, stretched skin. Then, he raises the breast tissue, including the nipples and areolas, to a higher position and reshapes the breasts as necessary. He then closes the incisions with sutures.
While incisions vary, an anchor pattern is used most of the time. This includes an incision around the darker skin of the areolas, vertically from the bottom of the areolas to the bottom of the breasts, and horizontally along the breast crease. For some patients, it is possible to eliminate the horizontal incision. This is called a “lollipop” pattern.
Dr. Subbio then removes excess skin, fat, and glandular tissue to reduce the breasts and lift them. If necessary, the areolas are made smaller in order to match the new breast size. The nipples and areolas are also repositioned.
There are scars, but Dr. Subbio will make the incisions in discreet areas whenever possible that can usually be covered by clothes. Over time, whatever scars are present will flatten, fade, and become less noticeable.
You can, but it’s best if you don’t because a subsequent pregnancy could reverse some of the results of your procedures.
We think there are several reasons! Here are just a few:
- He gives all his patients his cell phone number. He’ll call you the night after your surgery to check on you, as well as the next morning. And he’ll make sure your recovery is as comfortable as possible.
- He’s a trained artist, and you’re his canvas. It’s the perfect marriage of science and artistry. In fact, he’ll hand-draw his projected results right in front of you during your consultation.
- He’s fun! He likes to joke with his patients and put them at ease. Plus, we maintain a small office where we treat our patients like a part of the family.
- He won’t try to convince you to have a procedure that isn’t best for you. He’d rather lose your business than sign you up for a procedure he isn’t 100% behind. And if he thinks you need a procedure he doesn’t offer, he’ll recommend a different surgeon for you.
Your Mommy Makeover is customized for you, allowing you to choose any procedure that Dr. Subbio offers. However, the most common surgeries in a Mommy Makeover include:
- Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) or Mini Tummy Tuck to remove abdominal fat and loose skin
- Liposuction to remove stubborn pockets of fat most anywhere on the body
- Brazilian Butt Lift to add lift and roundness to the buttocks
- Breast Lift to make the breasts perky again
- Breast Lift with Implants to make the breasts larger, as well as perky
- Breast Reduction to decrease the size of heavy breasts
Yes, a Tummy Tuck or Liposuction can improve the appearance of love handles and flatten the abdomen.
Probably not, but it depends on how many procedures you want. A Tummy Tuck and a Breast Lift would have to be performed separately, for example, with recovery time in between.
That depends on the procedures you wish to have done. Some surgeries require general anesthesia, while others can be performed using a local anesthetic and light sedation. After all procedures, however, you will be able to go home the same day, provided someone is available to drive you home.
For a full Tummy Tuck, an incision is usually placed just above the pubic area where the scar can be hidden under clothes. This incision may have to extend from one hip to the other, however, if you have a significant amount of loose skin that needs to be removed and tightened. Dr. Subbio will make the incision as short as possible, while also giving you the tightening and slimming results you want.
Another incision is usually made around the belly button. Dr. Subbio then uses Liposuction to remove excess fat. This is done by inserting a tube called a cannula, which is attached to a suction device. The stomach muscles are tightened, if necessary, by suturing the fascia, and excess skin is trimmed. The incisions are then sutured and dressed.
A Brazilian Butt Lift is generally achieved through fat grafting. Essentially, excess fat in one area where you don’t want it is harvested and injected into your buttocks. Liposuction is used to harvest the fat tissue, usually from the abdomen and/or thighs. Only small, discreet incisions in the abdomen or inner thighs are made, and a tube called a cannula is inserted. The cannula is attached to a suction device that removes the fat.
The fat is then purified and treated in a centrifuge, after which it is injected into the buttocks to give them a lifted, fuller shape. Dr. Subbio uses his experience as an artist to virtually sculpt the buttocks.
After the incisions are made, Dr. Subbio removes any excess, stretched skin. Then, he raises the breast tissue, including the nipples and areolas, to a higher position and inserts implants either above or below the chest muscle. He then closes the incisions with sutures.
You’ll be anesthetized during your surgeries, so you’ll feel no pain. All surgeries involve some discomfort after the anesthesia wears off, though. Most people find that the discomfort is less than they expected, and we’ll give you pain medication to help you get through your recovery as easily as possible. Plus, you can text or call Dr. Subbio at any time with your questions!
Yes, but it’s better to sleep in a position that does not put pressure on the area that was operated on. For example, if you have a Tummy Tuck or breast procedure, you will need to sleep on your back for a few weeks. We will give you full instructions to help you heal quickly and comfortably after your chosen procedures.
For the most part, yes, but post-surgical swelling can prevent you from seeing the final results of your procedures for a few months.
