Kybella is an injectable treatment for the submental or double chin area that dissolves fat with deoxycholic acid, the naturally occurring acid that is produced in the body to absorb fats. Kybella was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in May 2015 for the reduction of submental fat.
Kybella (deoxycholic acid) is an injectable treatment that permanently destroys fat cells in the area under the chin to improve your facial profile.
Kybella is intended to treat moderate submental fullness. Multiple injections are given under the chin per treatment; at least 4-6 treatments are recommended 4 weeks apart.
Submental fullness refers to the excess fat under the chin.
About 70% of submental fat is located between the skin and the muscles between the collarbone and the jaw. Submental fullness may be due to genetics, weight gain, and/or aging.
Kybella causes destruction of the fat cells. Once these cells are destroyed this area can not store or accumulate fat. Off label, Kybella can be used for other smaller areas of stubborn fat. A few different areas that can be treated off-label are:
First things first you must understand that Kybella is NOT a weight loss treatment.
Ideal Philadelphia Kybella candidates should be at a healthy weight before considering treatment. They must also have enough fat in the area to pinch. This must be stubborn fat, that is not budging with diet and exercise.
