Laser Hair Removal

Permanent hair reduction can be achieved through a series of laser treatments anywhere on the body. Gradual reduction with each treatment, however, many patients experience significant clearing and relief of ingrown hair in as little as one session. Depending on the area of concern, type of hair, and medical history, a series of 5-10 treatments may be required for optimal clearance.

Laser Hair Removal FAQs

Duration – 15 minutes – 2 hours
Intervals – 6-10 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart

Laser hair removal is a process which uses a beam of concentrated light that is absorbed by the melanin within the hair follicle. The light destroys the follicle resulting in inhibited or delayed hair growth.

Certain areas are more sensitive, but many compare the sensation to that of a rubber band snap. Sensitive areas can be numbed prior to the laser treatment using topical numbing cream

4 weeks before: Avoid waxing, tweezing, or threading the area to be treated
2 weeks before: avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen
1 week before: discontinue use of retinols, AHA’s, and BHA’s (if treating face, lip, chin, jawline, or neck)
Day before/day of:closely shave the area to be treated
Patients taking antibiotics should not be treated with a laser as it causes the skin to be photo sensitive.

Most people require 6-10 sessions depending on the amount and type of hair being treated. Yearly maintenance sessions are recommended for maximum reduction.

While virtually every skin type is a candidate, laser hair removal can only be used to treat dark hair. It will not treat white, grey, red, or blond hair as the laser is targeting the dark pigment of melanin.
