Your nose defines your face.

Harmonize your facial features with a Philadelphia Rhinoplasty.

As one of the most prominent facial features, the nose plays a significant role in facial harmony; a disproportionately sized, bumpy, or asymmetrical nose can detract from your overall beauty.

At Subbio Plastic Surgery in Philadelphia, Dr. Sinehan Bayrak helps patients enhance their facial attractiveness and reclaim their confidence.

Her refined surgical techniques consider the nose from an aesthetic viewpoint and the impact nasal anatomy can have on breathing. Her surgical methods reshape the nose while maintaining an open airway so her patients can breathe comfortably.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that addresses the aesthetic and functional concerns of a nose that is too big, too small, crooked, or otherwise poorly shaped. Many patients refer to it as a ‘nose job.’

What are the benefits of Rhinoplasty?

In the hands of the highly skilled surgeons at Subbio Plastic Surgery, a well-done nasal reconstruction can have life-changing benefits such as:

  • Easier breathing
  • Improved self-image
  • A more refined appearance
  • Increased confidence when having photos taken
  • More balance and proportionality among the facial features

Am I a good candidate for Rhinoplasty?

This procedure is safe for most adults who want to improve the size and shape of their nose. However, you may not be the best candidate if you are pregnant, a smoker, or have significant health issues such as uncontrolled diabetes or hypertension. In addition, patients who cannot temporarily discontinue blood thinners should not have elective surgery as this increases the risk of complications.

This surgical procedure is for those who are 18 years of age or older. For anyone younger, non-surgical options are available.

Non-surgical Options

Liquid rhinoplasty uses hyaluronic acid fillers, ideal for those under the age of 18 or who might not be ready to commit to a surgical procedure. Your provider will inject the product into the soft tissues and artistically shape the flexible filler to contour your nose.

While fillers cannot make a big nose smaller, they can improve the appearance of a dorsal hump, crooked bridge, indents, and nasal tip drooping. They can also make your nose look more proportional and defined.

The results last less than a year, so it is a great way to get an idea of what surgical rhinoplasty can accomplish.

Dr. Sinehan Bayrak, Philadelphia Rhinoplasty Specialist

As a board-certified plastic surgeon in Philadelphia, Dr. Baykrak has extensive experience in leading-edge nasal reconstruction techniques.

Dr. Bayrak always knew that facial cosmetic surgery was her passion. She was enthralled to learn everything she could about facial aesthetics during her time in medical school. Dr. Bayrak has dedicated her life to ongoing training to become a master in this field. After earning her degree, she completed a five-year head and neck surgery residency followed by a 12-month aesthetic facial plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship. Since then, she has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades.

Consultation & Preparation

During your private consultation, Dr. Bayrak will listen to your concerns and examine your nose. She will also review your medical history with you to screen for any contraindications, and also take the time to answer all your questions.

If you would like to move forward, there are a few steps you will need to take to prepare for surgery. For example, smokers should quit for at least six weeks before and after their procedure. In addition, Dr. Bayrak may ask you to temporarily stop taking blood thinners and certain medications or supplements, including vitamin E.

A complete list of pre-operative instructions will be provided to you in advance. You will also need to sign and return a consent form.

Rhinoplasty Procedure

In most cases, a nasal reconstruction occurs while the patient is under general anesthesia. Twilight sedation is less common. Your surgeon will make adjustments to your nose through discreet incisions. In addition to enhancing the external appearance of the nose, Dr. Bayrak generally always performs submucous inferior turbinate reduction and septoplasty to optimize nasal breathing post-surgery.

Open vs Closed

There are two main techniques. The closed technique has small incisions inside of the nostrils. The resulting scars are imperceptible, but the structural changes are somewhat limited.

Dr. Bayrak prefers open rhinoplasty. This technique has small incisions near the columella, the strip of tissue between the nostrils. The advantage over the closed method is that it allows for a better view of the cartilage and bony structures. In addition, the structural changes made possible by this method tend to be more refined, and the results hold up well over time.

Rhinoplasty Recovery & Aftercare

Dr. Bayrak does not routinely pack the nose or use internal splints. When you awake in the recovery room, you will have an external splint applied to your nose. She will remove the splint approximately seven days later. All sutures are absorbable and will dissolve on their own. You will need a ride home. Ideally, you will have a caregiver present for the first 24 hours to make your recovery easier.

Your nose will likely appear swollen and feel firm at first. Expect some bruising under the eyes lasting two weeks or more. Most patients feel comfortable returning to work and social activities around two to three weeks post-op.

Your nose will likely feel congested for a few weeks. Do not blow your nose for two to three weeks. Sleep on your back with your head elevated, and avoid wearing eyeglasses until you are cleared to do so. Any swelling and firmness of the soft tissues should continue to improve over the next 12 months.

Rhinoplasty Results

After the initial recovery period, you should notice substantial improvements to the shape of your nose. The results of a nose job can last a lifetime, though it will not stop age-related changes. Most patients are thrilled with what they see in the mirror!

Rhinoplasty FAQs

Due to the anesthetic, the surgery is painless. There can be some discomfort afterward, but most patients find it is easily tolerated. Nasal congestion, a temporary side effect, is generally the cause of discomfort rather than true pain.

While this is a relatively safe procedure, it is surgery, and some associated risks are to consider. Pinpoint bleeding, bruising, congestion, and swelling are normal in recovery. Complications such as infection, septal perforation, blood clots, and chronic nasal obstruction are rare.

You will need someone to drive you home due to the grogginess associated with anesthesia. To make your recovery easier, it also helps to have someone to care for you at home for the next 24 hours post-op.

Generally, this is around one to two weeks, but your surgeon will advise you on how long to sleep on your back following the procedure. Side sleepers can return to their preferred sleeping position approximately three weeks post-op.

Your surgeon may advise you not to wear eyeglasses for up to two months after your procedure.

The cost varies based on several key factors. The type of anesthesia, surgical technique, and surgeon’s expertise all play a role in pricing.

If you have had rhinoplasty in the past and are unsatisfied with your results, Dr. Bayrak will be happy to discuss revision rhinoplasty with you. This is a corrective, secondary procedure that tweaks the results of a previous nose job.
