Neck Lift in Philadelphia

A smooth and well-defined neck and jawline is a hallmark of youth.

As we age, the neck tissue becomes loose and falls downwards, obscuring the once-crisp jawline. This can lead to a pouch of loose skin below the chin, and in more severe forms, a waddle of skin and fat that hangs to totally obliterate the neck.

Using hidden incisions, Dr. Subbio can remove the excess skin, suction the excess fat, and tighten the neck muscles to make the jawline and neck much more well-defined with smooth angles. Often this is combined with a lower facelift to address the jowls.

What happens during a Neck Lift?

After the incisions are made, Dr. Subbio removes excess fat, if necessary, using Liposuction. This process involves inserting a tube called a cannula into the incision. The cannula is attached to a suction device that extracts the fat. Excess skin and muscle are also removed, as necessary, and the skin is redraped for a firmer, more youthful look. He then closes the incisions with sutures.

  • Procedure: Surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the jawline and neck. Addresses excess skin and sagging in the neck.
  • Length: 4 hours.
  • Anesthesia: General.
  • In/Outpatient: Depending on if the procedure is combined with a lower facelift. Usually inpatient.
  • Results: Long-lasting, but does not stop aging. New wrinkles may form as skin ages.

Why should I choose Dr. Subbio for my Neck Lift?

We think there are several reasons! Here are just a few:

He gives all of his patients his cell phone number. He’ll call you the night after your surgery to check on you, as well as the next morning. And he’ll make sure your recovery is as comfortable as possible.

He’s a trained artist, and you’re his canvas. It’s the perfect marriage of science and artistry. In fact, he’ll hand-draw his projected results right in front of you during your consultation. He’s fun! He likes to joke with his patients and put them at ease. Plus, we maintain a small office where we treat our patients like a part of the family.

He won’t try to convince you to have a procedure that isn’t best for you. He’d rather lose your business than sign you up for a procedure he isn’t 100% behind. And if he thinks you need a surgery or treatment he doesn’t offer, he’ll recommend a different surgeon for you.

How long does it take to recover from a Neck Lift?

You can expect some swelling, discomfort, and a feeling of tightness for 2-3 weeks. We’ll remove your sutures about a week after your surgery. We may also provide you with a neckband to wear for about a week.

Neck Lift FAQs

If you have any of the following cosmetic conditions, a Neck Lift might be a good choice for you:

  • Excess neck fat and loose skin
  • Muscle bands around the neck
  • Turkey neck

A facelift will improve the jowls and the very top portion of the neck, while a Neck Lift addresses the entirety of the neck.

No. A Neck Lift is an outpatient procedure, so after a short period of recovery time, you can go home the same day.

You’ll be anesthetized during your surgery, so you’ll feel no pain. All surgeries involve some discomfort after the anesthesia wears off, though. We’ll give you pain medication to help you get through your recovery as easy as possible. Plus, you can text or call Dr. Subbio at any time with your questions!

Most people go back to work within 10-14 days.

AWe ask that you refrain from strenuous exercise for about a month.

Yes, but it’s best to keep your head elevated for several nights in order to reduce swelling.

Neck Lift results can last for years. The aging process does continue, however, so depending upon your age when you have the surgery, you may need a revision Neck Lift at some point in your life. You will no doubt require less of a correction at that point.

Absolutely! During your consultation, Dr. Subbio will ask you what bothers you about the way your neck looks. Then, he’ll tell you if a neck lift is recommended for you and will fully explain what you can expect. He’ll even hand-draw you a projected result right in the office!

In most cases, a Neck Lift can be performed using just a local anesthetic and sedation. While you won’t be fully asleep, you’ll be very relaxed, and you won’t feel any pain. You’ll be groggy afterward, though, so please bring someone with you to drive you home.

Incision locations vary from patient to patient. Often, they are placed under the chin or behind the ears where the scars will be out of sight.

The surgery usually takes 1-2 hours, depending upon the patient.

Most patients experience some bruising after a Neck Lift, but it usually subsides within a week or two.

There will be scars, but Dr. Subbio tries to keep the incisions under the chin or behind the ears. If he has to make other incisions, he will let you know prior to your surgery. All scars will fade and become smoother over time.

For the most part, yes, but any post-surgical swelling will prevent you from seeing the final results until it has subsided.

Many patients opt to have a combination of Neck Lift and Face Lift in order to improve signs of aging from the midface to the shoulder. Other procedures that patients decide to have along with a Neck Lift include:

  • Eyelid Lift to address drooping upper eyelids or bags under the eyes
  • Brow Lift to correct drooping eyebrows and forehead creases
  • Botox for the small lines around the eyes
  • Dermal Fillers or fat injections for deep folds and wrinkles on the face
  • Laser procedures for the skin’s fine surface lines

Dr. Subbio will advise if you can have your chosen procedures concurrently with your Neck Lift or if they must be performed separately.
